Gulfwatch Contaminant Monitoring Program Mapping ToolGulfwatch is a chemical contaminants-monitoring program organized and administered by the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment. Since 1991, Gulfwatch has measured contaminants in blue mussels (Mytilus edulis) to assess the types and concentration of contaminants in coastal waters of the Gulf of Maine. For the first time this data is available in a interactive web mapping tool.
Demonstration applicationThis new mapping tool combines Gulfwatch data with other organizations' maps on a dynamic basis via the web. This mapping tool uses Web Mapping Services, a web mapping standard developed by the Open GIS Consortium (OGC). Mapping contaminant informationThe Gulfwatch mapping tool allows users to view maps of contaminant concentrations from mussels across the Gulf and time series graphs of the same data. Collaborative developmentThe Gulfwatch mapping tool was developed by GoMOOS and me3 Technology Consultants in collaboration with the Gulfwatch program of the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment. The application was developed with Chameleon technology, which is an open source web mapping development environment from DM Solutions Group. Go to the Gulfwatch interactive mapping application.
